Costa Rica Final Notes

We’re just one week away from kicking off our Costa Rica adventure, and we want to give you one final chance to ask any questions or gather any last bits of information you might need. We know some of you couldn’t attend the Zoom meeting in March, so here’s a recap to help you feel fully prepared:

  • Arrival & Airport Pickup:
Some of you will arrive early on Saturday, May 17, and others later that day. We’ve arranged extra nights at Hotel Aeropuerto and coordinated airport pickups accordingly. When you land, keep a copy of your itinerary handy in case Customs asks about your travel plans. After Customs, you’ll collect your luggage and go through one more X-ray machine. Exit the airport, turn right, and walk to Restaurante Malinche, where a hotel representative will be waiting with a sign bearing your name(s). Don’t forget your passport, as you’ll need it to check-in at the hotel. If for whatever reason your fight gets delayed or you can find your transport please contact the hotel at +(506) 2433-7333.

  • WI-FI is available in all lodges. The best App to use for communication is What’sAPP. Don’t expect the fastest speed connections.
  • Money Matters:
U.S. dollars are accepted everywhere in Costa Rica, so there’s no need to exchange currency at the airport. Just ensure your bills are clean and undamaged. Credit cards are widely accepted too, so you won’t need to carry much cash.

  • Meals:
All meals are included except on May 17 and lunch on May 18. Hotel breakfasts are included—just ask about serving times to avoid missing them. Hotel Aeropuerto has a restaurant available for your meals on the 17th. On the 18th, although lunch isn’t included, we’ll take you to a local spot once we arrive.

  • Tips:
We suggest tipping hotel staff and restaurant servers. For hotels, $10 per night per room is a good guideline—so $20 total. A few dollars for restaurant staff is always appreciated.

  • Laundry:
Each hotel offers laundry services, but we’ll also visit a local laundromat on Day 6, which is very affordable.

  • Water:
Tap water in Costa Rica is safe to drink. If you prefer bottled water, you’ll be able to purchase it during our regular grocery store stops, along with snacks.

  • Souvenirs:
We’ll make several stops where you can buy souvenirs, including great coffee and other local treasures.

  • Packing:
Check the newsletter for a full packing list. Be sure to bring a swimsuit and a headlamp for nighttime photography outings. Bring hiking shoes, or tennis shoes.

  • Feeling Unwell?
If you ever feel under the weather and prefer to stay at the hotel, just let us know. Each hotel has relaxing amenities for you to enjoy.

We’re incredibly excited about this journey and can’t wait to share it with you. If you have any questions before we go, feel free to email us at rmung@wildstockphotos.com or nmung@wildstockphotos.com.

Let the countdown begin!
