Dear reader reader

It's my pleasure to announce the final preparations for our trip to Kenya. By now you should be applying for your Kenyan Visa and uploading your vaccination card to Global Heaven. In this email you will find a link to a document with photo tips for your upcoming photo safari as well as links to other resources you may want to review. A checklist of things needed for the arrival are also listed for your convenience.

  1. The Visa can be obtained at https://evisa.go.ke/evisa.html. You require a passport type photos in jpg format with the following dimensions 500x500 pixels. The cost of the Visa is $51 for single entry.
  2. Additionally you must upload your vaccination card to https://globalhaven.org/ Here are instructions on how to submit your vaccination card.
On our return to the US, we will be required a Covid Test to enter the US. This test will be done 24 hrs. before your departure from Nairobi. We'll provide you additional information regarding cost and logistics of the test. Last year we were tested in the middle of the Mara at the Keekorok landing strip surrounded by zebras and wildebeest.

Many of you have asked for suggestions on what equipment to bring, so I made a list of suggested gear for this trip. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions you may have.

Photo Gear Suggestions

  • DSLR, mirrorless or compact camera
  • Tele/Zoom up to 600mm range
  • Shorter zoom (70-300 or 70-200mm)
  • Wide-angle lens (18mm or less)
  • Walkaround lens (18-135mm)
  • Plenty of memory cards and a backup device (laptop or tablet with external hardrive or similar device)
  • Batteries and chargers
  • Small traveling tripod (especially if you like shooting videos or the night sky)
  • Flash (there are opportunities to shoot birds and insects around the lodges)
  • Lens and sensor cleaning tools (dust is your worse enemy in the savanna)
